The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia diocese, Lucius Ugorji, has decried the wanton destruction of lives and property in the country occasioned by the activities of violent herdsmen and Boko Haram terrorists.

Bishop Ugorji, who spoke against the backdrop of a peaceful protest called by the Catholic Bishop Conference across the country on Tuesday, declared that life has lost its meaning in Nigeria.

He charged the federal government to rise to the responsibility of providing security to its citizenry and expressed sadness over the deteriorating security situation in the country.

According to the priest,”Life has lost its meaning in Nigeria. And I wonder our fate if the government continues to fail in their core responsibility of providing adequate security of lives and properties in Nigeria.

“The target of innocent and defenseless worshippers is a callous. Who would save Nigeria?.

Ugorji revealed that the Catholic church in the state was praying fervently for God’s intervention and to ensure the senseless killings in Benue state was put at bay.

“The Catholic Church in Abia State is in prayer solidarity with our brothers in Benue. The Government must do the needful to save Nigerians from herdsmen and Boko Haram attacks,” he said.
