The Benue State Police Command has confirmed a report that two of its officers were killed during a fire exchange with herdsmen at Tse Orogbo in Nyiev Council Ward, Guma LGA of Benue State.
DAILY POST had reported that the attackers engaged policemen in a gun duel near a primary School before killing two of the officers 24 hours before the president visited the state.
Confirming the incident to DAILY POST Monday night, the command’s PRO, ASP Moses Yamu, said the sad development would not deter his men from doing their job.
He said, “The Benue State Police Command regret to announce the death of two of its Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs).
“They met their death in the hands of some armed bandits, while on confidence building patrol at Orogbo Village in Guma LGA on 11th March 2018 at about 1400hrs.
“The bandits who escaped into the forest in the area, shall be apprehended and brought to justice. The Police will not be dettered by the loss and the general public is thus assured of our renewed commitment to the war against all acts of criminality. We will continue to count on the partnership of the good people of the State in this regard, please.”
