The United Church of Christ in Nigeria, HEKAN, has refuted claim by the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, that 44 persons were arrested on Wednesday for trafficking in Kaduna.
Vice President of the Church, Rev. Emmanuel Namawho, in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna, called on the public to disregard news that two of its members were nabbed for ‘trafficking of minors’.
The statement said that the arrested persons were on their way to attend the annual HEKAN National Sunday School Camp at the church headquarters in Kaduna.
It added that the children left their homes with the consent of their parents and their resident pastors to attend the annual HEKAN event.
The church lamented that its members, who were, arrested along Ali AKilu road in Kaduna at about 4:30pm Wednesday were maltreated by the FRSC personnel.
Reverend Nama also said the children are presently at the Headquarters of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria HEKAN, Katsina road, Kaduna for the camp.
The church management called on the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
It also demanded for apology from the FRSC Kaduna state command.
