“He is a loyal and tested partner” – Jonathan confirms Sambo as running mate

President Goodluck Jonathan has finally picked his deputy, Namadi Sambo to run with him in the 2015 presidential election.

The development puts to rest speculations that Jonathan may dump the former Kaduna Governor because of his laid back character in deep politicking both in state and national politics.

For instance, Nasir El-rufai, Kaduna gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, described Sambo as an “unpopular” number two citizen.

According to him, his fellow kinsman could not boast of 25 per cent support of Kaduna people.

But speaking in the wee hours of Thursday after his ratification as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the February polls, Jonathan disclosed that he would run alongside Sambo.

“I stand before you to accept your nomination as your Presidential flag-bearer. I will give my all. I will not let you down. I will not fail the PDP and above all, I will not fail Nigeria”, he said.

“I want to announce that the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, a loyal and tested partner will be my running mate and Vice Presidential Candidate once again”, he added.

President Jonathan! who vowed to continue fighting against corruption and insurgency in the country, stated that, “inspite of our challenges, our unity remain solid.

“What we need today is to consolidate on our gains to secure our future. Only by united efforts can we defeat terror.

“This government will continue to do whatever is desired to improve security. Our fight against corruption is on course and we will do more in the coming years.”

Jonathan’s confirmation as the PDP standard bearer was announced after he received 2,812 ‘Yes’ votes out of the 2,812 votes cast.
