The Minister of Youths Development, Mr. Boni Haruna has appealed to the National Assembly and the Independent Electoral Commission to make provision for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the coming 2015 general elections.
The Minister said the call has become necessary given the large number of Nigerians that has been displaced in various parts of the country due to insecurity and natural disasters, saying that displaced persons should not be disenfranchised simply on the account of their present status.
The former Adamawa governor, who spoke in Abuja said provisions should be made in the country’s electoral law for displaced persons to cast their votes wherever they may be taking temporary abode.
It will be recalled that Haruna’s local government, Michika in Adamawa State has been under the control of Boko Hram insurgents with his family house in Kuborshosho razed.
