Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has rubbished claims by Rafa Benitez, that he refused to shake his hands after their 2-2 draw in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
The Chelsea interim manager told the media that, “I was waiting at the beginning. It’s up to him, I was in the way waiting.”
When Benitez was quizzed as to why Ferguson would do such a thing, he replied: “Ask him – if you are brave enough ask him. It was his decision. I was ready and waiting. I have some education because I know a lot of people are watching so I know what I have to do.”
However, Ferguson said he did not refuse to shake his hands and if the Spaniard really wanted to, he would have stood in his front.
“It is nonsense,” the Scot said. “Why would I refuse to shake his hand?
“I was signing autographs and I never saw him. Why he has said that I have no idea. If he wanted to shake hands he could have stood straight in front of me. It is absolute nonsense.”
The two managers will meet again in the quarter-final replay at Stamford Bridge, on April 1 and the winner will go on to face Manchester City in the semi-final at Wembley.
