Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police have announced the arrest of factional leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and their supporters in Oshodi.
This is contained in a statement by Public Affairs Officer of Lagos State Task Force, Adebayo Taofeek.
It quoted the Task Force boss, Superintendent of Police Olayinka Egbeyemi, as assuring Lagosians of safety of lives and property, following the violence that erupted after the death of Rasaq Bello aka Hamburger.
A video of Hamburger’s supporters marching and shooting bullets through Oshodi streets emerged at the weekend.
Hamburger, Oshodi Chairman of Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State (MOALS), was shot dead in Shogunle area of Lagos State during the local council primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
But Lagos and the Police vowed that they will protect residents, especially those living in and around Mafoluku, Shogunle, Sadiku, Ladipo and the entire Oshodi area of the State.
Egbeyemi disclosed that the arrested NURTW and RTEAN factional leaders and supporters that caused troubles around the area, were being personally interrogated by the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
Egbeyemi also said that men and officials of both the Task Force and other security agencies had been strategically positioned to monitor the activities of NURTW and RTEAN members around Oshodi area.
He warned miscreants and hoodlums to desist from causing chaos around Oshodi and in the state, adding that anyone arrested would be charged to court for prosecution.
Egbeyemi appealed to the public to report any unlawful activities of notorious miscreants and hoodlums to the appropriate security agencies by dialling Toll-free lines ‘112’ and ‘767’.
