The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), on Friday confirmed the death of three local government chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), from Zamfara state in Saudi Arabia.
The trio, according to reports made available to DAILY POST, were among the pilgrims from Nigeria to the holy land.
Commissioner in charge of health matters of NAHCON, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, who confirmed the death of the trio, added that the Saudi security in Madinah called the commission and informed the Nigeria Hajj handlers about the accident.
Kana, while speaking with journalists on Friday, added that the three victims and the three survivors of the accident were all from Zamfara State in Nigeria.
He said, “The death had occurred today of three Zamfara State government sponsored pilgrims in a ghastly motor accident on their way to Makkah from Madinah.”
Kana added that already a medical team has already been sent on the instruction of the Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Abdullah Mukhtar Muhammad, to liaise with the NAHCON Madinah Coordinator, Alhaji Ahmad Maigari, to link up with the Saudi security and health authorities for necessary documentation and final burial arrangement.
He said, “The deceased are from, Kauran Namoda, Maru and Shinkafi local government areas of Zamfara State, while the three survivors are from Anka, Bukkuyum, and Gummi local government areas of the State.
“This brings the number of Nigerian pilgrims that died so far, in the holy land this year to ten”.
