About 3,036 out of the 4,930 intending pilgrims for this year’s Hajj exercise from Katsina State have been airlifted.

Spokesperson of the state pilgrims welfare board, Mr. Badaru Karofi while speaking on the airlift exercise on Saturday, noted that so far about 6 flights were recorded from the state.

He said that the remaining 1,894 pilgrims will all be airlifted soonest.

According to him, the state was preparing its 7th flight as at yesterday (Saturday), adding that the state had no record of death so far.

In a related development, the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board said it disqualified three pregnant women from performing the 2017 Islamic Holy pilgrimage.

However, DAILY POST learnt that about 1,465 intending pilgrims from the state have been medically certified for the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Mohammed Tunde-Jimoh informed journalists that the disqualified women had been notified.

“The exclusion of the three pregnant women detected after the medical screening of the intending pilgrims is not punitive, but to safeguard their health and that of the babies”, he said.

Tunde-Jimoh continued saying that those confirmed with minor ailments will be allowed to carry their approved prescribed drugs to the holy land.

He warned the intending pilgrims not to engage in drug trafficking and other negative tendencies capable of tarnishing the image of the country.
