Gunmen raid female hostel of University in Anambra

Unidentified men of the under world attacked the female hostel of Paul University, Awka in Anambra state, eastern Nigeria and took away some students valuables, including mobile phones, jewelries and cash.

Eyewitness said the armed robbers who came with various dangerous weapons operated for several minutes without been confronted.

Confirming the incident, the institutions’ spokesman, Mr Ikechukwu Abana said the gunmen raided the female hostel in the night.

Abana added that the robbers were able to gain entrance into the university’s premises through an opening in the fence of the institution but affirmed that the opening has been sealed.

He however noted that the school management had taken urgent step by applying for police presence in the school for night patrols, adding that investigations was ongoing on the robbery case. “With all the efforts we have made, we are sure such incident will not happen again. The university is seriously addressing the matter,’’ Abana concluded.
