Tragedy struck in Aku, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State, Wednesday when a United States-based financial expert, Dr. Ogbo Edoga, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in his country home.
DailyPost gathered that the assailants, numbering about five trailed Edoga to the house of one of his kinsmen on a motorbike, and opened fire on him.
He died on the way to the hospital.
The hoodlums were reported to have eluded in a car snatched from a senior officer of the State Security Service (SSS), who was present during the incident.
The demise of Edoga had since paralysed the activities lined up by the villagers for the Christmas.
The reception organised for indigenous priests and dedication of a new building by the twin brother of the victim could not hold due to the tragic incident.
According to an eyewitness, the heavily armed gunmen shouted at the deceased, “where is the money?” before they shot him.
The deceased reportedly begged them not to kill him but the bloodthirsty assailants shot him with an AK47 rifle.
It was gathered that the late Edoga, a financial economist returned to the country to attend the meeting of Nsukka USA, an organisation of Nsukka professionals in the United States to raise fund for the establishment of an ultra-modern medical diagnostic centre in Ede-Oballa, Enugu State.
Confirming the incident, the Police Area Commander, Ros-Amson Halladu described the incident as sad and shocking, noting that the assailants were hired killers.
The police boss also advised returnees to always apply for police protection to avoid future occurrence.
