Gunmen kill two Police officers on patrol in Rivers

Two police officers have been killed by unknown gunmen around Eliparanwo junction along Ada-George within Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A source who claimed to have witnessed the incident told DAILY POST that unknown gunmen who rode in a black Highlander Jeep trailed the police officers who were in a private car at about 10:12pm, Tuesday night and opened fire on them, killing two and leaving one with bullet wound.

Our source simply identified as Iyke said the killers escaped while the police officer who suffered bullet wounds was rushed to a nearby hospital before a team of police officers and men arrived the scene of the incident.

According to Iyke, “I was sitting with my friends in a bar near the place where the incident took place. We just saw one black Highlander blocking a white car occupied by policemen, in few minutes, we started hearing gunshots.

“When we rushed there, we saw one police officer lying dead on the ground and another died inside the vehicle while the third officer who sustained bullet wound was rushed to a hospital.

“The killers escaped before other policemen arrived the scene, that was what I saw”.

When contacted the Spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the killing of two police officers.

DSP Omoni said the officer who sustained bullet wound is being treated, adding that the command has identified the vehicle used by the gunmen to carry out the attack.

He said efforts were on to identify the assailants: “I’m aware of the killing of two police officers around Ada-George. Our men have identified the car that was used to carry out the attack.

“We have deposited the corpses at the mortuary and investigations have commenced to track down the perpetrators of that evil act against policemen who were on their duties.”
