Gunmen kill two police officers, civilian, abduct expatriate in Rivers

At least three people have been killed and one expatriate kidnapped by unknown gunmen around Woji community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the victims of the attack include: two police personnel and a civilian driver in a convoy of an expatriate who was later abducted by the kidnappers.

A source, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, said the kidnappers ambushed the convoy within Acom road in Woji community in Obio-Akpor area and shot dead the two police officers and the driver of the convoy.

The eyewitness, Benita Utoro, said the gunmen later succeeded in kidnapping their target after sporadic gun shots in the incident which happened around 9:47pm Thursday.

“It was if there was a riot or crisis. When we heard the gunshots we knew it was either robbery or kidnapping. The gunshot was much. People tried to escape and hide so bullet doesn’t touch them.

“When we came out, we saw two police officers dead and the driver of the vehicle,” she recounted.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Rivers State Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident, saying “We are on the trail of the gunmen.”
