A Police Inspector, identified as Lasisi was on shot dead in Isua-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State by unknown gunmen.
DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen attacked the police officer and a sergeant, who was with him while on surveillance patrol with the community.
After the attack, the gunmen made away with his rifle while the officer who was with him escaped death by whiskers.
According to sources, the incident which happened along Ise-Akoko/Isua-Akoko road cause apprehension among residents as the gunmen shot sporadically to scare away the people.
One of the sources explained that the policemen were on surveillance duty on the road to curtail the activities of the kidnappers in the area when the gunmen who had been laying siege opened fire on the patrol van.
He said the police officer died instantly while a sergeant who was in the vehicle with him escaped from the scene of the incident.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the slain police officer had been deposited at the morgue in Ipe-Akoko General Hospital.
Confirming the killing, Femi Joseph, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, described the killing of the Inspector as sad development.
Joseph stated that the command has begun investigation into the incident, assuring that the perpetrators of the crime will nabbed.
“Detectives from the command had been combing the area to ensure the arrest of these criminals.
“We will not be deterred with the development to put an end to the activities of these bad elements in the state.”
