A pastor, one Obi William and his wife, Ebere, a thrift collector, were Thursday, killed by gunmen at the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi Metropolis, on their way back from church.
The deceased who reports say hailed from Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and his wife, an indigene of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, reportedly had four children.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bauchi command, Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen attacked the couple at Bayan Gari area in the state capital at about 7:45 pm on the said day.
He said ammunition of 7.62 mm was recovered at the scene of the crime.
He said the suspects took a bag from Ebere containing undisclosed amount of money being savings collected from her customers that day as contributions and fled after shooting the couple.
Mohammed further noted that police detectives attached to the Estate Division rushed to the scene and evacuated Williams and his wife to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi where they were certified dead.
He said following the killing, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed K. Mohammed, held a meeting with members of the Igbo community, assuring them of the security of their lives and property.
He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
Mohammed also stated that the Commissioner of Police had enjoined members of the Igbo community to always give police necessary information that will prevent crimes in the state.
