The police in Jigawa State have confirmed that armed bandits on Thursday morning attacked Garin Maidawa, Abiya ward of Dutse local government area.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Zama Sanchi, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said the bandits killed one person and injured many.
He explained that the people are armed robbers and the command has already mobilised the officials of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, to be deployed to the area.
The state deputy governor, Barr. Ibrahim Hassan, also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, stating that people should not panic as the police have been adequately briefed and would trace and arrest the culprits.
Findings by DAILY POST revealed that the attack was allegedly carried out around 3am on Thursday when the attackers came in their droves, demanding for the house of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Abdulkadir.
The armed bandits demanded money after they have gained entry into Alhaji Abdulkadir’s residence where they tortured his wife, Raihana Muhammed, who later yielded to their pressure and gave them some money.
“They were carrying guns and menacingly pointing at me demanding I should bring out the money my husband came home with and threatening to kill him if I refuse.
“My husband ordered me to go and get them the money he brought so that they can spare his life.
“the terrible ordeal did not end after I have brought them the money as they insisted on wanting more which I told them was all with me,” she said.
“It was at that point that one of the criminals pointed and fired at point blank at Alhaji Abdulkadir’s face were he instantly fell to the ground while another person, who is a neighbour to the victim was ran in to rescue him was shot dead,” Raihana said.
“We initially all thought our husband was killed until some people that came after the robbers have left found out that he is still breathing that is how he and the other victims that sustained gun injuries were rushed to the Rasheed Shekoni Teaching hospital in Dutse.”
Also speaking to DAILY POST, Councillor of Abiya ward, Mr Safiyanu Abdu said the incident happened when people were about to sleep, adding that some people came in with weapons shooting sporadically at people.
He said one person was already dead and nine people were rushed to Rasheed Shakoni Teaching Hospital for treatment.
