Gunmen kill four policemen in Kogi, Bayelsa


Suspected armed robbers, on Friday, killed two officers of the Nigeria Police Force, in Okene area of Kogi State during a gun battle.

The incident occurred during a robbery at the Okene branch of a first generation bank at the Old Prison Junction of the town.

It was gathered that a gunfight erupted when five men stormed the bank’s premises around 9am, but they were confronted by police officers on duty.

Kogi State police spokesperson, Shola Adebayo, confirmed the incident. He stated that the police had started a manhunt for the robbers and that they would not relent until they were arrested.

Similarly, two police corporals attached to the Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council of Bayelsa State, Remember Ogbe have been killed.

It was gathered that bandits, numbering four, had stormed the residence of Ogbe at 8 p.m. to abduct him from his residence at Amassoma but the two policemen foiled the attempt.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the death of the two police corporals, said they died from the injuries they got in the gun duel.

He said the bodies of the deceased officers had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, “for autopsy”.
