Four South Korean nationals and two Nigerians working for the construction firm, Hyundai Heavy Industries Limited were yesterday abducted by unknown gunmen in Bayelsa State.

According to the police spokesman; Fidelis Odunna, “Some armed men went to a Korean company, Hyundai, located in a forest by the Atlantic Ocean beach, and kidnapped four expatriates and two Nigerians.”

A fisherman simply identified as Tare Kolugha who claimed he witnessed the abduction said the workers were kidnapped on their way to site in southern part of Bayelsa state.

He said, “We were on the waters fishing close to Odioma Creek when we noticed two boats with armed men (who) shot into the air and stopped the passenger boat conveying the Hyundai workers to their yard.”

The abduction came few days after the mother of the Nigerian finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was kidnapped from her home in Delta state.

The 83-year-old woman was held captive for five days before regaining her freedom last Friday.

It could be recalled that last month, two Lebanese nationals were also kidnapped at a work site in the region.
