Gunmen invade Rivers community, kill LG Chairman’s aide

Unidentified gunmen at the wee hours of Thursday, reportedly invaded the Buguma community in Rivers state, killing a man identified only as Godknows who is believed to be an aide to Chief Soboma Jackrick, the Asari-Toru Caretaker Committee Chairman.

The victim, also known as Babadiba, was said to have been shot several times in his residence at about 1am, the Punch reports.

Confirming the incident, Jackrick said the gunmen stormed Buguma, the headquarters of Asari-Toru and began to shoot sporadically between 1am and 2am.

Jackrick, speaking on the incident through his lawyer, Mr. Tubotamuno Dick, said Godknows was appointed as his Special Adviser on Business Development.

He stressed that the victim was not a politician and described him as an easy-going fellow.

The council chairman recalled that the victim was recently threatened by a group of people, who accused him of being an informant to security operatives on the criminal activities in the area.

Jackrick said, “He was appointed the Special Assistant on Business Development. He was always at home.

“He was recently threatened by some persons, who said he was giving information to security operatives,” Jackrich added, noting that the police had been informed about the killing.

He said some security operatives came to Buguma in the morning and took the victim’s remains to the mortuary.
