Konduga is about 40 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital which had witnessed series of attacks and killings in recent past.
It was reported that the incident started at about 6:30pm when the terrorists fully armed with sophisticated weapons came to the town and took the policemen on duty unawares, shooting and throwing some Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into the police station. The station is said to have been destroyed completely.
A source who is a Police officer in Maiduguri confirmed the incident in a telephone call. He said, ” at about 6:30pm, some suspected terrorists attacked Konduga town and set ablaze the Divisional Police Headquarters. As I am talking to you now, the operation is still ongoing, as the station is still on fire”.
Although he said, the details of the casualty is still unknown, he said some policemen on duty were killed during the attack, even as he learnt that some of the terrorists were also killed.
He added that, he received a distress call from one of his colleagues working at the station, who narrowly escaped when he discovered that the station was running out of ammunitions in trying to repel the attack.
When contacted on phone for confirmation, the JTF Spokesman, Leuitenant Colonel Sagir Musa said, he was not aware of the incident, but will find out and relay back to our reporter.
Also contacted on phone was the Police Commissioner, Yuguda Abdullahi. The phone rang twice but was not picked up.
