Gunmen abduct doctor, two others in Ondo, demand N50million

Suspected kidnappers have abducted three health practitioners of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo in Ondo state.

The health workers, a medical doctor, a nurse and a record officer of the FMC, were abducted on their way to work within the Emure-Ile axis of the busy Owo-Akure expressway by armed men suspected to be kidnappers.

It was gathered that the gunmen who had been trailing the victims double-crossed the vehicle that was conveying the health workers and later moved them into the bush.

A family member of the kidnapped victims who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the abductors have made contact and are demanding the sum of N50 million as ransom before they are released.

“They (kidnappers) have called and requested for the sum of N50 million to effect their release.

“But the police have assured us that they will ensure that they are rescued as soon as possible.

“We have even gone into fasting and prayer so that the heart of the kidnappers would be touched, because the ransom they requested is huge,” she said

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the kidnap of the FMC workers, stated that police have swung into action towards rescuing the victims as well as apprehending the abductors.

However, Joseph maintained that he only got a report that only two workers of the FMC were kidnapped.

“I only know of two persons who were were kidnapped by the gunmen in Owo but our boys have swung into action and we will rescue the victim

“Already, we have deployed our men into the bush and they have started combing everywhere.

“Investigation has also started on the case and we shall bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
