Gulak threatens to file court contempt charge against PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus

The internal wranglings within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seems far from over following a threat issued by a former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, to file a suit seeking contempt of court against the party and its acting National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus.

Gulak disclosed that both the party and Secondus were disobeying the Abuja high court judgment which ordered the acting National Chairman to vacate office within 14 days.

Addressing newsmen in his office yesterday, Gulak said he will explore all legal means to enforce the judgment.

He stated that he has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to recognise the national organs and leadership of the party until the court directive is obeyed by the party appointing him or any other eligible member from the North-East as acting National Chairman pending when elections will be conducted to fill the vacancy.

Gulak said he had in a letter to the INEC Chairman dated December 30, 2015, asked the electoral body not to recognize Secondus as the acting National Chairman and to direct the party to comply with the order of the court or face lawful sanctions in line with the powers of INEC under the constitution.

The letter which was signed on his behalf by John Matthew, urged the the nation’s electoral body to give effect to the said judgment in line with its powers under the 3rd Schedule, Part one of the 1999 Constitution to monitor the organization and operation of political parties.
