The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it had set up national campaign committees for Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.
This party stated this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said that Chairman of the committee for Kogi election is Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
It said that the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) Secretary, Sen. Walid Jibril would serve as Deputy Chairman of the committee and National Legal Adviser of the party, Mr Victor Kwon, would serve as Secretary.
Other members of the committee, according to the statement, are President of the Senate, David Mark, and seven states’ governors who are members of the party and some key stakeholders.
For Bayelsa, the statement named acting BOT Chairman, Dr Bello Mohammed, as Chairman; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, Deputy Chairman, and Deputy National Secretary of the party, Mr Solomon Onwe, as Secretary.
“Also on the Bayelsa committee are Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, House Minority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor, four PDP state governors and other critical stakeholders.
“The NWC also approved that all state chairmen, senators and members of the House of Representatives from the respective zones of the two states are automatic members of the committees,’’ it added.
It said that the date for the national flag-off for the gubernatorial campaigns in the two states would be announced in due course.
The statement urged all PDP members, particularly those from the two states, to remain committed and continue to work hard for the success of the party in the elections. (NAN)
