Guber poll: Abia govt blasts APC, APGA, says opposition parties calming down those they borrowed mon

John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, has taken a swipe at the opposition parties in the state over their refusal to accept defeat and congratulate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate and incumbent Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who won his second term bid in the just-concluded March 9 governorship poll.

He frowned at the latest allegations being peddled around in the state by opposition All Progressives Congress, APC and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, over Ikpeazu’s reelection, maintaining that the people of Abia State overwhelmingly voted for the governor, because of, the administration’s giant strides in education, health, infrastructure promotion of Aba made products and security .

DAILY POST had reported that the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti and Dr. Uche Ogah, had jointly rejected the results of the March 9 poll.

The two front line candidates in the election, alleged at a joint press conference in Umuahia, that the results were highly tampered with in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)

But, Kalu, while reacting, in a terse statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Friday evening, in Umuahia said, “After a contest, losers are permitted to call press conferences while winners celebrate. It doesn’t change the fact that we are brothers seeking the best for ourselves and our people albeit from different perspectives.

“The scale and depth of Governor Ikpeazu’s victory is enough to tell those wishing to address press conferences or go to court to do a sober reflection. It is not my job to compel them not to further waste their personal resources or force them to join hands with the Governor to develop our state.

“They are free to live with whatever choice they make at this historical moment in our state. Though I suspect they are only addressing those conferences to calm down those they borrowed money from or hoodwinked into parting with their money in pursuit of the ab initio dead on arrival ambitions.

“My immediate task and indeed that of majority of well meaning Abians, is to support the Governor to deliver on the completion of ongoing projects, rejig our wage management system, improve our revenue base, deliver on the new 500km road projects and collectively work to put Abia on the path of sustainable growth and development.”
