The Abia State government says it has uncovered plots by some hoodlums hired by desperate political actors to burn down the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities in Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Isiala Ngwa South, Ukwa East, Ukwa West and Osisioma local government areas of the State.
The Commissioner of Information in the state, John Okiyi Kalu, in a terse statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Friday night, called on those involved in the dastardly plot to desist from such nefarious activities.
According to the statement, “We urge our youths not to allow themselves be used to perpetrate such a heinous crime.
“Security agencies in the state, especially the Nigeria Police Force, are hereby called upon to ensure that the targeted facilities and others in the state are adequately protected before, during and after the remaining elections”.
Meanwhile, the Abia State House of Assembly has passed the 2019 appropriation bill into law. The speaker, Rt. Hon. It will be recalled that the Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, had on December, 28, 2018 presented the year 2019 budget tagged “the budget of consolidation” with a total outlay of One Hundred and Thirty Nine Billion, five Hundred and forty two million Naira (139,542,000.00) only to the House of Assembly which immediately undertook due consideration and thereafter committed the Bill to the House committee on Appropriation for further legislative procedure.
