Guardiola “sad” Enrique is leaving Barcelona

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has spoken of his sadness at the news that Luis Enrique will quit as Barcelona coach, at the end of this season.

Enrique confirmed he will not be at the Camp Nou next season, saying that he “needs a rest”.

The Spaniard was speaking after watching the team hammer Sporting Gijon 6-1 in a La Liga fixture on Wednesday night.

“I would like to thank the Club for their trust. They have been three unforgettable years,” he said.

Speaking after City qualified for the FA quarter-final, following their 5-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night, Guardiola said: “As a fan, I’m sad that we’ll miss the perfect trainer for Barcelona. During his years they’ve played unbelievable football.”

Guardiola himself managed Barcelona for four years between 2008 and 2012, before he embarked on a one-year sabbatical break from the game.
