Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday, interrogated a Guardian reporter, Mr. Msugh Ityokura, over his recent report on the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Nasarawa and Benue states respectively.
The state Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, Mr. Tarfa, sought to know Ityokura’s source of information for the report. He said the invitation was at the instance of the state government.
The reporter on 15 August, 2014 claimed that the deadly disease had hit the Benue and Nasarawa States.
The report claimed that five people were taken to an undisclosed hospital in the area after which series of tests carried out on them indicated symptoms of Ebola.
However, the state Commissioner for Health, Mr. Emmanuel Akabe, had in his complaint denied ever speaking with The Guardian over the matter before the report, captioned, “Nasarawa, Benue record first Ebola cases” was published in the paper.
