A coalition of registered groups working for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to deliver seven million votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 28 Presidential election.
To achieve the goal, the coalition which comprises of over 40 registered groups under the Goodluck Support Groups (GSG), held a public rally on Saturday, in Akure, the Ondo State capital where members from the six South West states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun Ondo and Ekiti agreed to mobilize support for President Jonathan in the forthcoming poll.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, chairman of the coalition, Mr Banji Omotoso said over seven million votes would be delivered to President Jonathan in the South-West region through the coalition.
He stated that “the tumultuous crowd you are seeing here today is an evidence of rigorous activities which the coalition has engaged itself with since inception. The crowd here is not just the normal street crowd you see at most rallies; these are people that have permanent voter’s card (PVC) for voting.”
Omotoso, who is the South-West coordinator of Campaign for Transformation Agenda (CTA) of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan noted that President Jonathan has done well in administering the country, hence the need to show solidarity with him in continuation of his transformation agenda.
His words “Recently, the news was on CNN where the infrastructural development of Jonathan was adjudged to be among the best ten in the World, while the transformation of our national economy from crude oil to Agricultural based is on course, the huge investments in research and development as well as in military equipment cum hardwares cannot be over emphasized.
“This can be attested to through the works done in road construction, railway development, airport remodeling and improved electricity supply.
“Between 1999 and 2007, only two universities were established in Nigeria but in less than four years, President Jonathan has established well over 30 universities throughout the Federation. The establishment of Almajiri schools which no Nigeria government has ever thought of, should also be applauded,” Omotoso added.
Aside the rally, the chairman said the coalition would continue to work vigorously especially in the area of educating, as well as sensitizing South-West voters through workshops, seminars and symposia in addition to house to house campaign to let voters know the reasons why President Jonathan’s transformation agenda should continue.
