A group of professionals from the North West geopolitical zone, yesterday, said that Senator Bukar Aba Ibrahim should succeed David Mark as Nigeria’s next Senate President.
Aba is from the North West, the same zone that produced the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
At a news conference in Kaduna, the professionals from Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States, led by Mallam Nasir Jafar said: “ Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim is a veteran politician, who made remarkable giant strides in an opposition party, ANPP, as a two term governor in the face of the ruling party’s intimidation, harassment and bullying among others.
“When the political merger came up, he became its arrowhead and proponent above many of his colleagues. As a larger-than-life political figure, his star is still shining when that of his former governor colleagues are diminishing. He still maintained his success as a senator during the last 2015 polls in the senate.
“Ibrahim not only made tremendous strides in the merger of all opposition political parties that formed the All Progressive Congress, APC, which emerged winner in the just concluded polls across the country, and unified different political interests in the political history of this country.
“The South-west, popularly known as the Yoruba which never shared any political leaning or cooperation with the North-West, known as Arewa or Hausa/Fulani enclave, has now come together under the banner of APC. Thanks to the efforts of the likes of Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who worked tirelessly to make that happen.
“Another credit to this man was his indefatigable efforts in the last fifth National Assembly. In the last Senate, there were eight former governors form various states, but Senator Ibrahim was the first among his equals. As a true democrat and an advocate of genuine change, he made more contributions in the legislative process than many of his colleagues.”
