A group, Abia Youth Coalition, has called on the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, to clear the arrears of salaries and pensions of workers and pensioners of the Abia state Polytechnic at Aba.
The Chairman of the group, Emeka Nnanna who spoke with DAILY POST on Tuesday, asked the governor to take steps to address the issue as the workers and pensioners of the polytechnic were passing through very difficult times.
According to him, “Many of them have died and others in serious difficulties because the Abia government has refused to pay the school workers.”
Nnanna however appealed to the federal government to intervene in the matter and rescue the workers and pensioners of the school from hardship.
“We are calling on the federal government ably led by President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene in this issue.
“The Abia government has been receiving huge funds from the federal government, still they cannot pay workers in the state,” he said.
