A group, the Social Media Group, under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said it is targeting to raise N500 million towards the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The National Coordinator of the group, Michael Okorie disclosed this in Abuja at a press briefing, stating that Nigerians are donating to the fund raising project.

Okorie said: “Nigerians are already donating in support of the re-election of Mr President via the group’s donation/pledge forms, direct deposit into approved bank accounts and online donations.

“Artisans, barbers, petty traders, youths, women and low income people are giving their ‘widow’s mite’ because they have been positively affected by the transformation programmes of Mr President,’’ he said.

Speaking further, Okorie said the mass donation programme would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to be part owners of the re-election bid of President Jonathan and ensure that he continues to be the President of the masses in his second tenure.

“Some laudable projects of President Goodluck Jonathan are the YouWin programme, Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (fertilizer subsidy and seed distribution) and the SURE-P programme.

“Others are the establishment of Almajiri schools, new federal universities and polytechnics as well as rehabilitation of the country’s rail way system and remodeling of airports,” he said.
