The Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged (Centrep) has called on Nigerians to resist any inducement from political office seekers during the coming general elections.
The Executive Director of Centrep, Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, made the call in a statement issued to newsmen in Warri, Delta on Sunday.
Ikimi also urged the electorate not to sell their Permanent Voters Cards to the politicians, but to vote according to their conscience for the candidates of their choice.
”Nigeria will not burn before, during and after the forthcoming general elections since Nigeria is bigger than any individual, political party or group.
”The above advice has become necessary because of the heating up of the polity by the negative statements credited to politicians ahead of the general elections,” he said.
Ikimi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies in the country to be non-partisan and neutral in the discharge of their election duties.
He also urged politicians to allow their actions to be guided by the Electoral Act by refraining from the use of inflammatory statements and to shun all forms of electoral malpractices.
