Unified Nigerian Youth Forum, UNYF, has described as unacceptable the loss of over 70 lives in less than 72 hours in the name of suspected Fulani herdsmen attacks in some parts of the country.
The forum through its President, Abdulsalam Muhammad Kazeem in a statement said,, “It is sad, tragic and catastrophic that in less than 72 hours we have recorded the loss of over 70 lives to unknown gunmen or suspected Fulani herdsmen all in the name of insecurity in our country, when will all this killing stop?”
It called on the government to take decisive actions on the security of lives and property of the people, adding that it was the only way towards securing the future of the country.
The forum lamented, “The leadership of Unified Nigerian Youth Forum condemn in totality the killing/continuous attack on our fellow citizens, particular in southern Kaduna, Benue and Rivers state.
“Huge amount of money is budgeted for the security of our nation, yet there is nothing to show for it! The president should strengthen our security agencies or declare a state of emergency in the security sector.
“We expect the issue of insecurity in our dear nation to be a thing of past by now, considering the military background of Mr. President.
“The President must act on white paper’s reports of series of committees been set up in the recent past so that the conflict entrepreneurs will be identified and punished.”
It noted that in less than 13 months to the 2019 general election, Nigerians were still confronted with issues of insecurity here and there.
“We as a forum will rather say point blank that there is a systematic orchestrated campaign of destabilization going on in our dear nation by some certain disgruntle elements who never believe in peace and unity of Nigeria,” the forum observed.
It called on all security agencies to put in their best in ensuring that the killings of innocent citizens in various states and communities are brought to a complete end.
