Group defies Wike’s order, leads protest to INEC office

A group of demonstrators, mostly Ijaws have defied the ban on complaints and converged around the Air Force axis of Aba road to register their complaints at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission where collation is ongoing.

DAILY POST reports that the protesters carried placards with inscriptions like,“INEC don’t rape us”, “Ijaw say no electoral fraud,”, “We say no to open day electoral robbery,” and so on.

Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe who is leading the protest, claimed that the ban on public protest by Governor Nyesom Wike was a means to shut the people from speaking out the truth.

“We are here to protest because INEC has compromised beyond all reasonable doubts. They told us that there were problems and they could not collate results. They subsequently suspended the election.

“And then suddenly, they told us that they have results of 17 Local government areas. At what point did they collate the results they are announcing. Where did they keep the collated results?

“Was it at INEC, Central Bank or in Government House, these are some of the questions we need answers to,” he said.

The protest was disrupted along Presidential-Birabi GRA link road when suspected hoodlums started pelting stones at the protesters.
