A pro-democracy group based in Ibadan, Dynamic Yoruba Youth, has commended the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State for expelling former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the party
A statement signed by its General Coordinator, Oluwatosin Ajibade flayed Obasanjo over his alleged anti-party activities, describing it as “lack of appreciation to the PDP”.
“The expulsion of Obasanjo is good riddance to bad rubbish. We wonder how the party has tolerated him for so long considering his anti-party activities, which were clearly inimical to PDP’s progress not only in the South-West but also across the nation,” it said.
“We have always asked ourselves what exactly does our former president want from a party he has been privileged to lead and on whose platform he was president for eight years and which also gave him the privilege of serving as its Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman and where he was able to influence other things.
“It is a tacit lack of appreciation on the part of Baba Obasanjo as evident in him biting the fingers that fed him. Tearing his PDP’s membership card publicly does not speak well of him and his stature as former leader of Nigeria.
“The former president serves no one but himself alone and if he cannot get his way in any situation, he must scatter such and destroy the place. PDP should not be deterred but continue its campaign for a better Nigeria which we believe only a government of President Goodluck Jonathan can deliver through its dynamic programme of action,” the group added.
