Group charges NJC, Judges on fraud cases

A group, Kwara State Coalition Group, (KSCG), has appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and other incorruptible judges in the country to prevail on judges handling various fraud cases to deliver justices with utmost fear of God.

It expressed concerned about the rate at which corrupt high profile people in the society are purchasing justices in their own favour.

The group, in a statement issued and signed by Saliu Ajia and Secretary, Batuta Sani said such attitude had given the corrupt elements the confidence that no matter the amount they stole, they would eventually get their way.

KSCG, particularly raised the alarm over a recent alleged move by one of the prominent leaders in the National Assembly, who is facing trial on corruption to lure the judges handling his matter to his own side.

It said the unfiltered information from the camp of the alleged person says he had set machinery in motion to reach out to all the judges handling cases of financial impropriety involving him and some members of his family in order to get judgement on their favour.

According to the group, he believes that the move to pervert justice becomes imperative for him so that the cases would not rubbish his political records and his ambition to become Nigerian president in the nearest future.

It alleged that, several millions of dollars have been set aside by the member of the National Assembly to rob the palms of the judges that are presiding on the various cases.

The group said ” the alleged legislator at the National Assembly is very serious about the issue of influencing the jurists to his side because the cases if not on his favours will dent his political image and it will equally affect him due to the fact that he is holding a key position in the Assembly.

” We therefore called on the affected judges to turn down any offer from his office which may come in form of gifts and gratifications because the gestures definitely have sinister motives

“We also urged the judges to be more productive, proactive and incorruptible while dispensing justice on cases related to frauds and other criminal acts in the country.”

It urged the judges in Nigeria to desist from acts capable of dragging their names to the mud, saying the jurists should be part of nation building and show example to the youth.

” Our judges should maintain their high integrity and also desist from any thing that will dent their hard earning images. “
