Group calls Obasanjo a ‘bad actor’, accuses him of undermining Jonathan

A group, Move on Nigeria, has lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his recent acts and attacks against the office and person of President Goodluck Jonathan.

National coordinator, Mr Clem Aguiyi, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, said Obasanjo is a bad actor who thinks Nigerians are dimwits.

“Why the PDP had tolerated him up to this point remains a worry and a puzzle,” he said.

Continuing he said, “We are aware of a plot by him and some persons within and outside the country to undermine the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“We find the false claims and allegations reportedly made against President Jonathan by Chief Obasanjo on Saturday, in Abeokuta, very repugnant.”

Move on Nigeria said it is unfortunate that Obasanjo has made up his mind to mislead the nation with unfounded lies.

“While we hope Nigeria survives his sinister interventions, we seize this opportunity to urge him to tell the truth for once before he dies.

“It is most regrettable indeed that a man like Chief Obasanjo, who should know better, chooses to repeatedly, wantonly and maliciously lie against a sitting president of his country for the primary purpose of achieving self-promotion.

‘‘It is also important to note that the man Obasanjo as president will not stomach the rubbish he is giving to President Jonathan.

“It is obvious from Chief Obasanjo’s vituperations against President Jonathan who is doing his best to positively transform Nigeria for the benefit of all of its people that Obasanjo’s singular reason is for selfish self-promotion, hence he has willfully chosen to close his eyes to the good works and noble intentions of the Jonathan-led administration.

‘‘For reasons best known to him, Chief Obasanjo has set his mind on a regime change by fair or foul means, hence he has continued to incite the citizens and the military against the government.

“Otherwise, it would be completely senseless and out of place for Chief Obasanjo to accuse President Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by ‘hook or crook’ and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election when obviously he (Jonathan) is committed to free, fair and credible election and had proven his commitment to one man one vote in all elections conducted under his watch.”

The group further stated that Obasanjo who never conducted a free and fair election throughout his regime had no morals to pontificate to any government.

“For the record, President Jonathan has no such intention and will continue to give the greatest possible support to INEC and other relevant federal agencies to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted.

“Obasanjo’s plot with others within and outside the country to thwart the general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government, which he hopes to head is an open secret, but by the Grace of God Almighty, his odious plan to return to power through the backdoor will fail woefully.”

The group dismissed Obasanjo’s endorsement of Buhari as expected noting that the old order which held Nigeria down and made her a giant with clay feet had refused to give way.

It recalled that Obasanjo in 2007 told Nigerians that Buhari is too old to lead and that a religious bigot and a tyrant was not fit for civilized leadership.

“What has changed?,” the statement quipped. “It is evident that Buhari who has refused to apologize for his ugly past has neither changed nor improved.

“It is therefore worrying sign that Obasanjo and past dictators who took up arms to overthrew Buhari military government 33 years ago having accused him of being rigid, uncompromising and dictatorial are today in their twilight and exit from the planet are trying to shove Buhari down our throat. Nigerians are not fooled by the antics of these bad actors.”

Move on Nigeria added that the 2015 election was not about Jonathan but about Nigeria moving forward and moving backward.
