Group blasts FG over resident doctors’ strike

Unified Nigeria Youth Forum, UNYF, has condemned in totality the indefinite strike embarked upon by resident doctors in the country.

The group blamed the government at all levels in the country for not taking necessary steps to avert the strike, stressing that it would set the country’s health sector backward.

Abdulsalam Muhammad Kazeem, UNYF president, in a statement issued Wednesday in Kaduna to newsmen, said, “We appeal to the resident doctors to reconsider their steps, as it will help save the lives of many common Nigerians who are presently receiving treatment in our various public hospitals across the nation.

“The resident doctors should please resume work with immediate effect, to re-affirmed the oath they swear to protect the lives of human beings, it will help to control the outbreak of Cholera in Borno State, and it will equally help the affected victims of Benue State flood disaster.”

The forum expressed reservation on the inability of the federal government led by President Muhamadu Buhari to meet up with the demands of both ASUU and resident doctors.

“It is a national scandal and a national embarrassment on our nation considering the fact that the resident doctors are embarking on industrial action for the second time in 15 months on the same issue, ranging from inability of the government to pay their full salaries/allowances and their exclusion in the pension scheme, yet the federal government could foot the bogus medical bill of Mr. President in a London hospital for more than 100 days.

“We have carefully watched the way and manner most public officials/political office holders refused to show assistance/solidarity to the people of Benue State flood victims like they did during the campaign fund raising for both People Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressive Congress, APC.

“We appeal to our professional footballers (both foreign and local) to raise fund through a charity football match with their colleague in other part of the world as well as national, multi-national and strong indigenous companies to come to the aid of our people in Benue State at this urgent time of needs,” the statement noted.

It appealed to governor Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna State to do all he could to ensure public schools are functioning very in order to compete favourably with international standards, adding, “When that is done, the hope in our public schools will be restored in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.

It added, “We are fully convinced that the delay by Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai the Executive Governor of Kaduna State in the re-opening of campuses in the Southern part of the state is purely base on security reasons, we salute his position towards the immediate re-opening of all campuses in the southern part of the state.

“With this development, the governor of Kaduna State has been vindicated because most people earlier believe that the continues closure of the campuses was base on hatred, religious and political reasons.

“We appreciate the effort of Kaduna State Government, particularly in areas of educational development cutting across the 23 local government area of Kaduna State.

“We call on other governors to emulate him, by getting the blue print of Kaduna State Educational Project and implementing such in this respective state as it will help to shape the future of our generation and the generation yet unborn.

“We appeal to all stakeholders in the southern part of Kaduna state to give the government and security agencies the needed support, assistance information and cooperation needed towards fishing out the perpetrators of evil.

“The academic and business activities will not be interrupted for any selfish or political reasons at any cost.”
