Group asks Jonathan to punish New PDP leaders

Media Network for Transformation, MNT, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan deal decisively with the Kawu Baraje-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party for disrespecting constituted authority, including the office of the President.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Ebelo Goodluck, the group accused the faction of acting above the law despite peace moves aimed at resolving the party’s crisis.

“The activities of the members of the so called New PDP are gradually taking more irritating turns by the day,” MNT said.

“The obvious disdain this handful of disgruntled members of the party has continued to show for dialogue has left no one in doubt that they have no respect for constituted authority both individually and as a group including for the office of Mr. President.”

“It doesn’t sit well with decorum that a group of politicians would rather elect to make public nuisance of themselves when avenues of meaningful dialogue are available for them in the party and with the president.”

It noted that selfish interests was behind the ‘New PDP’ grouse against Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur leadership.

“For this, we call for strong signals of the president’s irritations for the mischief of the Baraje group in the polity,” the group said.

The coordinator observed that governance has also totally been relegated in the states of the feuding seven governors, whom he said have been more concerned with their union meetings in Abuja than in attending to governance issues in their states.

He stated that the bid to get what for themselves and families in faraway 2015 has totally taken over the governors, leading them to literally relocate to Abuja and abandon the people of their states to their own fates.

“This is a reprehensible betrayal of the people of their states for self interest. It is unjustifiable for the governors to have made the innocent citizens of the states they govern the victims of their personal ambitions.

“In the face of all these, we strongly call on President Goodluck Jonathan to henceforth adorn iron gloves in dealing with the Baraje group and its irritations.”

“It is clear that the group is enjoying the ass they are publicly making of themselves, and feels no pinch at fouling the sensibilities of the watching public,” the group said.

The group noted that the 2015 general elections were too far away to warrant over-heating the polity by the Baraje group, insisting that Mr. Jonathan should act decisively for the sake of national security.

“The election year is too far away to push any person or group to seek to over- heat the polity or sabotage governance in the country. The president must act decisively against the mischief of this identified few, which already is threatening national security.

“For no reason should any individual or group be allowed to endanger national security,” it said.

It asked President Jonathan to rise “with every power he can muster, and instill sanity in any individual or group which takes pleasure in convulsing the system.

“Individually and as a group, these errant members of the PDP have adequately shown that they are pursuing no genuine cause and neither have desire for a meaningful dialogue nor for peace.

“For national security and peace, the President, must forthwith pull off the kid gloves and decisively deal with the distraction of this group with the heavy hand it requires.”
