Group accuses Governor Lalong of plots to impose his crony as traditional ruler

The Gamai Progressive Front (GPF) on Sunday alleged that Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State was planning to impose a traditional ruler the people.

The GPF in a press statement signed by its National President, Miskoom Hoomsuk Shalsuk, and made available to journalists in Jos, accused the Governor of planning to forcefully install his friend “Dr Elias Kwap,” as a successor of the late Long Gamai against the traditional practice of inheritance of the said stool.

It reads, “The leadership of Gamai Progressive fronts (GPF) wishes to categorically condemn the attempt by the governor of Plateau State to impose and manipulate the selection process in picking the next Long Gamai of Shendam slated for the 23rd February 2017, to favour his child hood friend Dr. Elias Kwap, against the traditional practice, wishes and generality of the good people of Gamai land.”

The statement added that the biological eldest son of the former traditional ruler should automatically inherit his father’s stool.

“This is against the general wishes of both the majority of Gamai people and the traditional institutions that prefer the Son of the late Long Gamai ASP Mipoe Shaldas, as the next Long Gamai,” the statement stressed.

It would be recalled that the late Long Gomai died over a year ago, and the stool has been vacant since then.
