The Green Party of Nigeria, GPN, has commiserated with the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, KADSIECOM, and Kaduna State government over the fire incident that was recorded at the KADSIECOM office Saturday, stating however that the local government elections should hold as scheduled.
Kaduna State chairman of the party, Ahmed Mohammed Zagi, in a statement, said, “We therefore, insist that the local council polls will still hold as scheduled, while calling on the state government and law enforcement agencies to fully investigate the incidences surrounding the fire outbreak to erase suspicions of sabotage from those who may not want the polls to hold.”
Recall that fire had gutted the head office of KADSIECOM on Saturday around 10am when senior management staff were holding a meeting.
Zagi’s statement read, “The Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) commiserates with the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) and the Kaduna State Government over the unfortunate fire incidence that gutted its head office on Sokoto Road on Saturday April 21, 2018.
“We are deeply saddened by the development happening few days to the long awaited Kaduna State Local Government elections.
“GPN is worried about this unfortunate incident, but wishes to categorically state that in spite of the development, elections in Kaduna State must go on as scheduled.
“Our party believes in true and genuine democracy and is of the view that the local government areas which are the closest to the grassroots deserve to be administered by elected representatives at the council and ward levels.
“GPN has committed a lot of resources in preparing for the polls and would not hesitate to seek redress in court of law the polls fail to hold as scheduled.
“GPN is a new breed political party that believes in equity, justice and fairness and assures all that our party when it takes power at the centre and states in 2019, would always ensure that Nigerians are place first.”
