The Labour Party, LP, standard bearer in the April 11 governorship election in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, has filed a 21-ground notice of appeal to Supreme Court, challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal in
upholding the election of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as Governor.
The Labour Party’s candidate explained through his lawyer, Dele Adesina, SAN, that the appeal was to allow
the apex court, “an opportunity to review the correctness or decision reached by their Lordships of the appellant court.”
This was revealed in a statement issued yesterday by Ogboru’s aide, Henry Efe Duku, which asserted that it will be a grave disservice to the reasonable expectations of the people and electoral jurisprudence if they failed to approach the Supreme Court to determine the issues with finality.
The statement reads, “Our approach to the issues is simple and consistent. We believe it is better to allow our courts adjudicate on alleged human failings in the electoral process than to kill ourselves. Even when our patience has understandably waned, we must persevere still.
“The Greatest Salesman in the World, obstacles must be seen as comrades-in-arms forcing us to quit or become better. If we run away from them, we throw away our future. For the future we deserve in Delta State, we must confront obstacles on our paths with confidence, knowing they shall give way some day for the promise of a better future for all.
“Indeed, democracy tasks human patience like no other form of governance. We need divine grace and the endurance of the biblical Job if we must prevail. In our travails in Delta, we shall prevail. We need not say more for now. But please pray for Delta State,” it stated.
