Yakubu Gowon, former military Head of State, has appealed to Nigerians to resist any circumstance that could lead to the country’s breakup.
Gowon, who made this disclosure during the Nigeria Prays Program for the North Central zone held at the Chapel of Freedom Church in Lokoja, Kogi State, urged leaders to rule their people with the fear of God.
He further called on churches and other religious institutions across the country to continue to pray for the unity of Nigeria.
He also revealed that “prayers offered by Nigerians and his believe in the power of prayers” saw him through difficult time when he ruled Nigeria.
The former Head of State decried the increase in kidnapping, armed robbery and other socio-vices in the country.
He called on political office holders and leaders to put the interest of the country above theirs, so that the nation can remain united.
According to Gowon, “God loves Nigeria and made us Nigerians. Nigerians must resist any circumstance that would lead to the division of the country.
“I enjoined the leadership of the country at all levels to rule the people with the fear of God. Leadership is from God and must be people oriented.”
