State governors yesterday endorsed the plan of the Federal Government to increase the contribution of Solid Minerals sector to the nation’s treasury through the engagement of Independent Professional Revenue Consultant to increase the sector’s contribution to the revenue of the federation.
The National Economic Council, NEC, meeting made this approval sequel to a memo presented to the Council by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on the need to engage the consultants in order to support government’s diversification drive for the country’s economy and revenue base.
The approval of the engagement of Independent Professional Revenue Consultants, however, came with the condition that the Ministry should negotiate a threshold with the consultants on their professional consultation fees. During AOB, Council noted that today is Edo State Governor’s last attendance and therefore commended him for his service as a member in the last 8 years. He received a standing ovation from members. The Outgoing Governor commended the leadership of the President, and also the Vice President as Chairman of the Council, especially for his commitment to the states.
