Governor Yakowa to be buried on Thursday; Kaduna Government declares 7-day mourning period

The new Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero has said the remains of late Gov. Patrick Yakowa would be buried on Thursday.

Yero said this in an interview with newsmen at the Government House, just after a broadcast to the people of the state on the death of Yakowa.

In his speech, the Governor praised his predecessor, saying he was a “humble, dedicated and fair person, who always related well with people, irrespective of religious, tribal or sectional inclination”

He declared Monday December 17 as work-free day, in addition to a seven-day mourning period which takes effect from Sunday December 16.

The Governor stated that the bodies of Yakowa and another victim, Mr Dauda Tsoho would be received in Kaduna on Monday, adding that “details of necessary arrangements for their internment would be made known in due course. “During the period of mourning, all national flags in the state should be flown at half mast.’’

“I plead with citizens of Kaduna State to accept this sad situation, that we cannot change, with total submission to the Will of God,’’ Yero noted.

He further asked all the 23 local council chairmen to open condolence registers at their various offices. Already, two have registers have been opened at the Government House and also the Hassan Usman Katsina House.
