The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has blamed the poor state of the nation’s economy on corruption.
Shettima said this yesterday at the first National Forum on the Economy in Lagos.
According to Shettima, the President Muhammed Buhari-led administration was working towards ensuring that the issue of “corruption” was wiped off from the country.
He also stated that the Panama paper’s revelation was a tip of the iceberg when compared to the level of corruption being perpetrated.
Shettima also disclosed that the economy of his state was seriously affected by the Boko Haram insurgency which killed over 20000 men, women and kids.
He placed the destruction done by the insurgents at $6billion.
Shettima said, “30 percent of the houses were destroyed in the state, including schools, primary health centres, infrastructure, including water supply and electricity.”
The governor appealed to wealthy Nigerians to invest more in education, stressing that the few that were rich cannot be protected by the many that were poor.
