Governor Orji expresses shock over Akhigbe’s death

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has expressed shock over the death of the former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, who died at the age of 68 in a London hospital after a protracted struggle with cancer.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji, apart from describing late Akhigbe as a patriotic Nigerian, noted that he contributed immensely to the development of the nation’s navy as Chief of Naval Staff.

“I received the news of Akghibe’s demise with shock and disbelief. He was a fine soldier par excellence who loved his country with passion and he demonstrated this through his firm belief in the Nigerian project. His sudden death came at a time when his wealth of experience and expertise were needed for the development of the country.

“I pray God Almighty to give his immediate family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Though, his exit is painful but we should be comforted that he served his fatherland to the best of his abilities. My heartfelt sympathy also goes to the government and people of Edo State. They should see their son’s death as an act of God. I pray that his gentle soul rests in peace.”
