The Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has declared Thursday as deadline for militants in the state to surrender their arms.
Okorocha gave the warning at the state government House yesterday when members of a militant group, Niger Delta Red Squad, surrendered their arms to the state government.
The militants in their hundreds from Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta Local Government Areas surrendered their arms before Okorocha and the Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen Kay Isiyaku.
Weapons surrendered by the militant group, includes, 10 AK-47 rifles, pump action guns, local pistols, knives and axes, among others.
Addressing the former militant group, Okorocha said, “By the powers conferred on me as the governor of the state, I hereby grant you pardon.
“You can now go and become good citizens and contribute to the development of your state and for those who are yet to hand over their weapons, you have up to Thursday next week to do so.”
