Governor Mimiko signs N123.720bn 2016 Budget into law

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Monday signed the 2016 budget of N123,720 billion into law, with a promise to continue with his people-oriented governance in the last lap of the administration.

The assent on the budget followed passage of the bill submitted to the House of Assembly on February 2, 2016.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the governor’s office, Mimiko said through the instrument of the yearly budgets, the State had inevitably been placed on the global scene as a worthy reference in good and innovative governance.

According to him, the rationale of this year’s budget was to ensure the continuity of the amazing social re-engineering process of the last seven years.

The governor assured that, despite the challenges before the government, the budget will be implemented towards the continued delivery of dividends of good governance to the people.

Mimiko who, however, said a key challenge to budget implementation, was the availability and adequacy of fund which had been quite precarious of late, said it had become imperative for the state to seek to maximise its revenue receipts and minimize non-essential expenditure.

He said, “Our usual watchword of accountability and prudence in the management of public fund would be passionately embraced to give good value for every Naira spent and to ensure judicious utilisation of all appropriated funds.

“Similarly, I am optimistic that the oversight function of the Honourable members will further enhance the monitoring aspect of the budget for proper implementation.”

The initial budget presented to the House by the governor was N118.990 billion, which was latter jerked up by the House to N123,720 billion.
