The eldest son of Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state who was arrested on Tuesday night at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, was today released on bail after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), filed charges at a Federal High court in Kano.
Aminu was caught with $40,000 (N7.5 million), an amount which is in excess of the authorized $10,000 allowed by law for travellers leaving the country.
The Governor had yesterday rose in stout defense of his son, claiming Aminu was going to Cairo on a medical trip, in respect of the treatment of his (the Governor’s) grand-daughter, who had a spinal cord problem.
Lamido said that the impression being created by the anti-corruption agency was totally “false and mischevious.”
Officials of the EFCC in Kano disclosed that the suspect was freed on administrative bail as there were no judges available to take his plea today due to “judges conference” taking place in Abuja.
It is expected that a date for hearing on the matter will be fixed next week.
